Very interesting. I read rumors of this a few days ago, but here’s Mike Lazawhatsits confirming it: the Blackberry Playbook has at least several key components entirely built in Adobe AIR.

The question remains, “is this Adobe AIR of the HTML+JS variety or the Flash variety?”

If the latter, it seems the Playbook really is the ant-i-Pad.

It could be a great move. I’m sure RIM is tired of losing developers. They’ve just opened the doors to a huge population of developers. I’m not sure what the numbers are for Adobe AIR developers, but the numbers for HTML/JS and Flash developers that could easily learn AIR are pretty good.

AIR’s performance on that tablet doesn’t look too hot, though, with the exception of video playback, which is probably happening entirely on the GPU.
