This is an incredibly humble statement. It could be easy to call Stewart cowardly, lazy, selfish, and who knows what else based on this line of reason, but what I see is humility. What I hear him saying is, “I realize that I have a following because I’m a good entertainer, and I realize that I could confuse that with having the qualities of a good leader. I could, therefore, assume it was a good idea to ‘do something about it’ or ‘get on the field’: to run for office. I realize, however, that I am not that kind of leader. I am not qualified.”

To me, that’s wisdom. And humility. And if more politicians had those two qualities, we’d have far fewer of them.
