The XOOM and Playbook hands-on

by Thomas Brady

I almost forgot! I got to play with a BlackBerry Playbook and a Motorola XOOM today. I was not at all impressed with the XOOM. It’s fine, I guess. It felt like another generic tablet running Android to me, albeit a slightly prettier Android (Honeycomb is marginally prettier).

The Playbook, however, actually impressed me a bit. The screen seemed to have a pretty impressive pixel density. I’m guessing it’s 240. The UI was super responsive. They had WiFi turned off, so I didn’t get to try the browser. The hardware is pretty nice, too. Nice and thin. It’s really kind of sad. This could have been a nice platform.
