I’ve been trying to put words to this for a long time. Sinek points to Apple as a good example, as well as the Wright Brothers. I want to either start or find this kind of company: a company that creates things out of belief, not the desire to profit. Profit is not bad, but as a focus (conscious or not), as a reason for doing what you do it’s a formula for failure. The contents of this talk, I believe, are truly the thing that separates a company like Apple from the rest. Imitators pick characteristics to adopt to try to mimic Apple’s success (“We’ll build colorful computers, too!” or “We’ll spend lots of money on marketing, too!”). They’re totally missing the point.

EDIT: I totally forgot to thank M. for sending this to me. Thanks!
